What a fantastic New Year 2011. It was lovely to finally get all the family from across the country together (all 23 of us) and Pine Lodge could not of been more perfect. The accommodation is beautiful and so much space for everyone. The family ranged from 3 years to 75 years and something for everyone to do with so many lounges, kitchens, swimming pool and pool table. Outside was equally nice with huge grounds and lovely walks nearby. We ordered Fish n Chips for our arrival on the Friday which were first class thanks to Nikki at the White Hart Inn. We all have said it was the best New Year by far and can not wait to come back. The Lodge was decorated beautifully and none of us wanted to leave. I would definately recommend Pine Lodge to anyone. Many thanks to Melanie and Ruth for all the information you provided and help when we were there.
Our party of 15 (for our Golden Wedding family celebration)ranged in age from 2 to 84 years! Could anywhere provide accommodation and entertainment in November for such a diverse group? The answer of course is YES! PINE LODGE!
The swimming pool was in almost constant use by all age groups – the little ones gaining confidence and having fun – the older ones simply having fun! We loved the pool table and loud cries of ‘YES!’ could probably be heard all over the house as (unexpectedly) the black was ‘potted!’
Jen provided us with a delicious celebration meal on the Saturday night- and it was so good to be able to put on our posh frocks (just the girls as it happens!) and sit down to a civilised dinner that somebody else had prepared.
Its a quirky house – rather eccentric I suppose but it worked for us! Comfy beds; immaculate bed linen – and plenty of space!
So – a BIG thank you to all involved.
Best wishes

We have just returned from a fantastic weekend with the whole family, varying ages 11-86, plenty to do at Pine Lodge to keep them all happy. The house is lovely and the website really doesn’t do it justice, the size of the place and quality of accommodation is superb. Comfy beds (so comfy i could have taken it home with me) and very thick duvets, kept everyone very toastie.
The pool and snooker table was a great gathering place and fantastic fun for everyone!
The White Hart delivered tasty fish and chips on Saturday and provided us with a very reasonably priced and hearty Sunday lunch, but they need to employe a good cleaner, try and ignore the lack of dusting.
Would really recomend Pine Lodge as it’s just about perfect, perhaps not suitable though for someone very disabled, as there was only one bathroom suitable which is a shame, and several small steps to manoeuvre.
We had a fantastic weekend with family and friends of varying ages, plenty to do at Pine Lodge to keep them all happy. The website doesn’t really do justice to the size of the place and quality of accommodation. The pool was fantastic fun and very warm despite the British weather!
Definitely must recommend Jen (Skendleby Caterers), she made us some fantastic food and lots of it too, plenty of leftovers for the following day. Also Nikki at the White Hart delivered great fish and chips on Friday and provided us with a very reasonably priced and hearty Sunday lunch!
Also thanks to Melanie and Mickey (caretakers) who were very helpful when we had a lighting and smoke alarm problem! Getting an alarm technician at 9pm on a Sunday night was no mean feat but she had them there within 20 minutes, thanks Melanie for taking care of us.
Excellent place and great service from all involved. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone. We hope to return sometime.
This has been a wonderful venue for our 70th birthdays, with our children and grandchildren joining us; the latter ranging from 19 to 2 weeks in age. We all had such fun and the house is such an ideal place for family gatherings etc. The pool was the main attraction (and our main reason for booking Pine Lodge) and we spent so many hours there with fun and confidence abounding. The snooker table gave much pleasure too to all the males present (aged from 6 to 70), whilst the ladies loved the kitchens and dining room. My house now seems minature in comparison! Most of the bedrooms were ensuite – and were a wow with the grandchildren. I loved the fact that the large garden was safe for young children ie no stream, lake, pond, river etc and the pirate ship, badminton and football areas were much enjoyed – and would have been more so had the weather been kinder! However, being true Brits we loved every minute, whatever the day brought forth. We have been truly spoilt this last week and in so many ways. We would love to return one day and explore more of the area (weather permitting!).
Thank you to Ruth, David, Melanie and Mickey for all your support and help. You deserve all the stars you are awarded! We have been emailing photos of the house to many families already, so hope you have an abundance of bookings as a result!
Grace, and Terry, Gilmore-James July 15th – 22nd 2011
Just returned from our third family get together in Pine Lodge. With a large family none of our homes is big enough for us all to meet together and so this is perfect. The house is well laid out with lots of living space. The pool is excellent and is usually the main attraction for the children, it has a shallow area for younger ones to gain confidence. The house is well looked after and each year we go back you can see that money is being spent to make improvements. We plan to go back next year.
We came here in April 2008 for the weekend for my Mums 50th Birthday.. we all had a fab time.. something new as we do this all the time.. been to plenty of statley homes and mansions and all the massive party houses, but out of them all for the weekend this one was certainly the BEST! we all had soo much fun.. the pool is GREAT and the layout if fab! everyone seemed to congregate in the kitchen/conservatory.. The Owners are soo friendly!! they are really nice caring people!
So after the weekend of my mums birthday.. In 2009 it was my 18th and my brothers 30th in the space of 2 weeks.. We booked again for the last weekend in january!! and yet again we had another FAB NIGHT!!!! on the saturday we had a BIN LINER PARTY!! we all did fancy dress haha that was soo funny!! the different costumes coming out from the hall way. from a farmfoods bag, a pint of guiness, a lady bird, top hat and tails and also darth vaida.. haha was a wicked night… YET AGAIN ANOTHER TOP WEEKEND!!!!!!
To it now coming up to my 21st which also WE HAVE BOOKED PINE LODGE!!! we love this place and recommend it VERY HIGHLY
The website does not do this house any justice – it is fabulous and far beyond our expectations. 20 of us stayed to celebrate my 40th birthday and we partied the week away. The pirate ship was perfect for the setting for our pirate party. The dining room perfect for my birthday celebrations and the grounds just had to be used for our ‘day at the races’ with afternoon tea. David and Ruth are the most considerate owners and they ensure your time in their house is memorable. Thank you.
Just wanted to say a big THANK YOU to you Ruth and Melanie for helping me plan and sort out a great week away for everyone. The house was amazing and a few people have already asked me details / prices , because they want to book their own private functions with you in the future
My boss was very impressed and i dare say you’ll be getting a booking from us again next year!
Wonderful venue for our family get together for my Dad’s 85th birthday. Fish and chips from the pub on our first night, delivered to the door, was great and eased us into the weekend. Good choice of food at the local for Sunday lunch, good walks, and of course there is the pool and sauna – wonderful. This was my second visit and I’m sure we will be back.
Five Families and and Friend from Australia came together at Pine Lodge to celebrate my wife’s 40th Birthday.
We all had a wonderful time, making great use of the pool (where the kids literally spent hours and hours) and the pool table (where the adults spent hours and hours).
The house housed us all comfortably, with enough space to allow us to be together if we so wanted to or to have some quieter time as smaller groups.
We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, as evidenced by children crying when it was time to go home.
My only suggestion is that you also add a link to the local Tetford pub on the Pine Lodge site, as we booked the Blacksmiths Arms one by Skendleby Hall by following the site link – where we still had a great lunch, but a walk to the local would’ve been even better.
Many thanks.
We had an excellent February holiday at Pine Lodge. The facilities are excellent and the children in the party hardly left the pool!
The spacious accomodation meant that there was plenty of opportunity for members of our party either to split up or meet together. We would definitely recommend the property.

I would just like to say that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the weekend at Pine Lodge (you could be getting some bookings from various members of the group in the future). We also found that everyone involved in the weekend (David, Nikki at the White Hart, Jen from Skendleby Caterers, Dave for Clay Pigeon Shooting) were very friendly, helpful and hospitable and added to the enjoyment of the weekend.
Most importantly, the groom had a great time.
Please thank Melanie on my behalf for all her help. As we know, there was a bit of difficulty re-arranging the weekend after the first cancellation but I so glad we did. It all worked wonderfully well in the end.
Thanks again Ruth. You never know, I may return one day.
